EnWave is working with several partners with sector experience to aid in the testing and commercialization of REV technologies, and will continue to look for future collaboration opportunities with market leaders.
Nestlé S.A., Switzerland
In July 2010, EnWave and Nestlé SA announced that they have entered into a R&D agreement involving the nutraREV™. Nestlé S.A. is the world’s largest food and beverage company and is known as a leader in innovation, early technology adoption, and open innovation.
Danisco AS, Denmark
In April 2009, EnWave and Danisco announced that they had successfully completed a first round of testing for the dehydration of cultures and probiotics using powderREV™ technology.
Based on the initial success of the first tests, EnWave and Danisco entered the second phase of testing to evaluate the commercial viability of EnWave’s powderREV™ dehydration technology on a wider scope. In May 2010, Enwave announced that the powderREV™ technology had been successfully used to dry kilogram quantities of probiotic cultures provided by Danisco A/S.
Following these recent tests and a project review with Danisco, the Company has now begun the design and fabrication of a larger, continuous powderREV™ pilot line. The parties have agreed to a series of joint trials to be conducted together at EnWave’s Delta facility beginning in the 2nd quarter of 2010, with delivery of the equipment to Danisco’s operating site in the 2nd half of 2010. The goals of this next phase of the collaboration are to prove the commercial potential of the technology for uniform, consistent drying of pure, uncontaminated probiotic cultures, with viability and storage stability as good or better than freeze dried product, but at a much reduced cost. If testing is successful, the Company believes this new design can ultimately be extended to full commercial scale by the 2nd half of 2011.
Hans Binder Maschinenbau GmbH, Germany
In Apri 2009, EnWave signed a strategic cooperative marketing agreement with the German engineering group, Hans Binder Maschinenbau GmbH of Munich, Germany. The goal of the agreement is to accelerate revenue growth by each company, and to provide local machine service for their customers in the food sector in Europe and North America.
EnWave's nutraREV™ and Binder's MIVAP™ technologies both produce attractive dried food products with high nutritional retention, improved flavour and appearance, and significant cost savings in labour, energy and capital per kilogram of production over freeze drying.
Although both companies use microwaves as an energy source, EnWave’s continuous rotating basket design and Binder’s continuous tray system both offer unique proprietary advantages with limited market overlap for dehydrating a wide range of fruit, vegetable, and meat products for the snack, cereal, soup and baking industries.
Together, the two technologies will now compete directly for all aspects of the freeze dried food market which is comprised of over 400 products around the world. |
